Protect This Woman Bracelet Detail
I have been designing jewelry with precious metals, stones and other objects for over 25 years. To me, metal and stones are a living substance, a magical gift from the Earth. I am fascinated by jewelry, and how objects of adornment can have personal meaning and an emotional tie to our lives and loved ones. In design, I'm drawn to basic shapes, symbols and colors. I love to create surface textures that appear fabric-like. Stamped words create more depth of meaning. My hope is to make very wearable, well loved talismans.
Fifteen or so years ago, I made a bracelet for the teenage daughter of a dear friend that had the words "Protect this Woman" TM stamped on the back. I loved the wish of well being for a loved one inherent in the words. I have been privileged to be making jewelry with those words ever since.
I have a degree in Fine Arts from Ohio University where I focused on ceramics, fibers and art history. My childhood was an immersion in the studios of my grandparents, learning enameling from my grandmother, marionette making with my grandfather in his wood shop, along with painting, collage, ceramics, sewing, crocheting, and knitting.
