Gail Watson

Gail Watson began making art as a BFA candidate in sculptural ceramics at the State University of New York at New Paltz. While clay remains her first love, printmaking has been her focus for the past twenty years. A chance meeting with a letterpress printer lead to a grant from the Colorado Council on the Arts to learn the art of printing on her 1887 Pearl treadle press. Now an established book artist working in one of a kind and edition artists’ books, Gail’s work is in university and private collections across the country. She now works out of her home studio on the Peak to Peak Scenic Byway near Rollinsville, Colorado.
This group of one of a kind pieces is rich with textural imagery based on the natural world-phases of the moon, birds nests, molecular secrets and icons. Her process involves the use of a platen press and a hot stamping machine, resulting in a collage of letterpress, foil stamping and painting on sustainably grown and harvested bass wood.
